An Interview with Patricia Brennan Scott, PhD.

I am just starting down the path as the founder of a small business, and it’s an interesting moment for me.  It brought to mind a short story I first encountered as an undergraduate at Temple University: Acres of Diamonds.  Its’ message has stayed with me for decades.  In essence, it reminds us that the dreams and opportunities we seek are often already within reach – in our own backyard - we simply need to look.

This article is a direct result of looking in my own ‘backyard’ and finding diamonds: the people, places and experiences that glitter and may do so for others as well.  The conversation that follows is with someone I have been fortunate to call both a friend and colleague.  She is sharp and fun; driven and compassionate.  She is Patricia Brennan Scott, PhD.

Pat is a nationally recognized communication expert and the founder of Uhmms, a company that transforms how leaders speak, persuade and connect.  She was also a long-time lecturer at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the author of three national best-selling books on engaging short attention span audiences.  Her work blends rigorous academic research with practical strategies that elevate presentations, negotiations and leadership communication.
